this past weekend, we were at my parents house. they live in an area with a lot of snow - lake effect, from lake michigan. it was gorgeous, white, and fluffy - the perfect way to kick off december! lillie . . .

in late-winter, when i long for the beach, i bring out a summer recipe that soothes all of us. it is a fruit soup, and we drink it in glasses frosted in the freezer (although that is too cold for winter!). . . .

whew! michigan weather! last year, we had an incredible (and difficult) ice storm. yesterday's ice storm wasn't as bad as last year, but the schools were all closed for the 2nd time . . .

my parents' home is an old victorian farmhouse, built in 1871. if you look across the road and down a bit, you can see half the hill removed - scraped away to make the bricks for this huge house.

it's been a very warm winter. we've not had much snow, and the ice around the edges of the lake is easily broken. almost
